The Adelaide Central Market Shopping Area is located in the centre of the central business district of Adelaide. Commonly known among locals as simply the ‘Central market,’ it is an Adelaide which regularly sells a lot of goods ranging from fresh produce, sea food, toys and other items.

The Adelaide Central Market originated in 1869 when a group of local gardeners met at the corner of Grote Street and Gouger to sell their produce. However, its official opening was held on the 22nd of January 1870.

The Central Market is one of Adelaide’s busiest tourist destinations. It is now considered the ‘heart of Adelaide.’ It now consists of over 80 stalls and offers some of the most delightful food you can eat. Fresh produce is sold daily and has caused this market to become one of the most visited areas in South Australia.

The market opens from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The Central Market is closed on Sundays and Mondays and only some stalls open each Wednesday.

Getting there is easily done as it is located in the center of Adelaide. The City to Bay Trams or the Free Adelaide Connector Bus can get you easily within the vicinity. A total of 1500 Parking spaces are also available at the Central Market U Park or the U-Park on Grote Street.
