Glendeer Open Farm

This is an open farm located west of Athlone, Ireland, owned and run by the O'Connell Family. The farm is opened from Easter to the end of September, 7 days a week.
Additionally, at Easter there are also Easter Egg hunts with the Easter Bunny. Throughout the month of December an enclosed area of the farm is changed into Ireland's Lapland, with Santa and his reindeers, a crib with real cow and donkey ("Dancer" and "Prancer" as special guests at the farm), a snow scene, 3 cabins with different Christmas themes, nature walk, restored cottage, souvenirs and tuck shop and lots more.
There are over 50 species of animals and birds to see and maybe even feed, playing area and picnic area. Children can play on the slide, swings and the very popular glider swing, while grown-ups enjoy a refreshing cup of tea or coffee with freshly made sandwiches and homemade cakes at the Cobblestones Coffee Shop, or buy pottery, stained glass, arts and crafts, home bakery, homemade jams and cheeses.
Other local attractions are St. Brigid's Well and Monastic Site, Drum, Cruises of Lough Ree and Shannon, the Athlone Castle, Leisureworld, An Dun Transport Museum, Locke's Distillery & Museum, Dun na Si Heritage Centre, Clonmacnoise and Bog Rail Tour.
Signposted on the N6, just west of Athlone, Glendeer Open Farm can be easily reached by car.
Accommodation is also available here in the two self-catering cottages overlooking the open farm. In each apartment can sleep up to 5 people. The apartments are equipped with all modern services and all comforts and an oil-fired central heating and electric fires combine to give an all-year warmth.
