Located about a hundred kilometers south of Brisbane, the Gold Coast Airport is also known as Coolangatta Airport. Currently one of the fastest growing airports in Australia, the airport managed more than 3.7 million passengers.

The airport’s runway sits on five suburbs of twin cities across both Queensland and New South Wales. In the summer, these two states are in different time zones.

It was until the year 1999 that the airport was referred to as Coolangatta Airport. In the year 1936, the airport consisted of just three grassy runways with the purpose of providing an emergency landing ground for airmail aircrafts between Sydney and Brisbane.

Eventually, the airport routes evolved into an international charter flight service from New Zealand in 1990. Today, it is one of the most popular international departure points.
