Located in Innsbruck, Austria, the Golden Roof is the most prominent structure of the city. The monument was built by Archduke Friedrich IV during the early part of the 15th century, to be the residence of the Tirolean monarchs.
Situated in the heart of Innsbruck, the Golden Roof is a 3 storey building; the Gothic oriels on the building are capped with 2,600 gold-plated copper tiles. The Golden Roof building was built for Emperor Maximilian I as a royal box where he could sit in luxury and enjoy tournaments in the square below. The Golden Roof was completed at the start of the 16th century; it was also built in honor of Maximilian´s second marriage, to Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan.
