Gottingen Central Station

Göttingen railway station is the only passenger station of the city of Göttingen is an InterCityExpress stop on Germany's domestic long-distance rail network.

The station lies west of the medieval town centre and was built in 1854 as the terminus of the Hannover Südbahn. Today, the station has four platform islands, each of them having two through tracks. Between the station building and the platforms is a through track for goods traffic.

At the end of 2006 extensive changes began and a fast food chain opened here and the entire entrance hall of the station was reconditioned.

The InterCityExpress connects Gottingen with Berlin–Braunschweig-Göttingen- Frankfurt(M)–Stuttgart/Basel through lines 11 and 12, with Hamburg-Hannover-Göttingen-Frankfurt(M)–Stuttgart/Basel through line 20 and Hamburg/Bremen––Hannover-Göttingen-Würzburg–München through line 25.

At Gottingen are also regional connections which link the city with Hanover, Ueltzen, Kassel, Fulda, Gotha, Zwickau and Bodenfelde-Ottbergen.

In 1885, here was set up a locomotive overhaul centre. The buildings of the locomotive depot were erected in 1917 and after 1976 the works were closed and in 1993 were made some plans for re-use which led to multiplex cinema opening in the northern part of the plant in 1996.
