The Old Government Buildings Historic Reserve located in Wellington New Zealand is located at the northern end of the Lambton Quay Quarter of Wellington in New Zealand. A popular tourist attraction, the Old Government Buildings Historic Reserve is one of the most historic places of the city.

Built in the year 1876, it is the second largest wooden building in the World next to the Todai-iji in Nara, Japan. It is currently classified as a Category One building by the New Zealand Historic Places. This classification indicates that it is an authentic and well-preserved historic place. The Category One classification has currently resulted in the Old Government Buildings Historic Reserve to become one of the most visited tourist spots in Wellington.

The building was designed with a Neo-Renaissance style that is made purely of timber. At first, the plan was to build it with concrete but due to the cost of such materials the decision to use timber was accepted.

Restoration and expansion of the building was made in 1897 and again in 1907. Structural framing was made from Tasmanian hardwood and the walls and flooring and finishing timber were from kauri. The main grounds are open to the public and reopened only in 1996.
