Government Canyon State Park encompasses 8,624 acres of beautiful, pristine natural reserve land in Bexar County, Texas. The park is located at 12861 Galm Road, in San Antonio. The land that now comprises the park was bought by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1993, however it was not opened to the public until 2005. Visitors will find numerous amenities at the park, including 10 picnic sites situated throughout the grounds. Public restrooms are also conveniently available. At the Government Canyon State Park, there is also free wifi access as well as a picnic pavilion. For those who enjoy hiking, the park has numerous trails, however visitors should be advised that some are currently under construction. Activities, which may include nature talks and educational events, are scheduled monthly, and volunteerism at the park is encouraged.
