The Texas Governor’s Mansion of Austin was built in 1854, and designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1974, having served as the home to every governor of Texas since 1856. The Greek Revival-style building is the oldest governor’s mansion west of the Mississippi River in the United States, and sits on the center of a city block adjacent to the State Capitol in downtown Austin, Texas. The Texas Governor’s Mansion is within easy walking distance of Waterloo Park, the Texas State Capitol, and the famous East Sixth Street entertainment district of Austin. Due to a fire in June of 2008, the Mansion is not currently scheduling tours; however, visitors may call the number listed below for updated tour information.
