The idea for Graafschap took shape as early as 1936 when the then mayor of the historical town of Lochem had the idea of building a golf club.
However these plans were thwarted by the arrival of the Second World War and it wasn’t until 1987 that it was put into life, by none other than the mayor’s son, W. Van Luttervelt, a property owner.
Together with CWH van Dam, another property owner, they decided to finally build a course and in 1993 the first nine holes were opened. These were later followed up by further nine holes in 1995. A 3-hole practice course was added in 2001.
The 18-hole course adapts well to its natural environment. There are undulating greens, cake timber, beautiful ponds and heathland. However, players also face woodland and challenging fairways with strategically placed bunkers. The narrow fairways in particular are sure to test your accuracy. Par is 72. The length for the men’s course is 6057 m and for women 5277 m.

The clubhouse is a converted farm from 1992, which was later expanded in 2003. It now contains a cosy restaurant with a bar and a fireplace, as well as changing rooms and a golf shop. The terrace displays a nice view over the golf course. The club has a tranquil ambience and keeping within that atmosphere, visitors are asked to keep their phones on silent.

At the edge of Lochem, situated in beautiful woodland, lies the Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Paasberg. Rates here are at $102 and it is 2.38 miles from the Graafschap course. A bit further out, 2.93 miles, is the family run hotel De Gravin Van Vorden from $87.
