One of the most stunning national parks in the whole country is Grand Teton National Park, located in northwestern Wyoming. Named after the tallest mountain in the area, clocking in at almost 14,000 feet, the park is almost 500 square miles of gorgeous fields, soaring mountains, and streams and lakes. In winter, the view is incredible due to the snowfall, and skiing is a rather popular pastime in the area, too.

One of the most notable things about Grand Teton National Park is that the Grand Teton Mountains, unlike the nearby Rockies, don't have any foothills to act as warning. Rather, there's suddenly gigantic and distinctive mountains rising in the distance, right from the flat land.

Hiking and climbing are both popular activities at Grand Teton National Park, with over 200 miles of trails for experienced wilderness hikers, as well as a number of exciting day hikes. The climbing, while beginners will fare well in some areas, is mostly ideal for more experienced and professional nature enthusiasts.

In addition to the large number of tourists that make their way to the park each summer to take photographs, Grand Teton National Park also is home to a surprisingly diverse population of animals, including moose, coyotes, bison, elk, mule deer, rabbits, grizzly bears, black bears, mountain lions, wolves, and many reptiles and amphibians.

Grand Teton National Park is open every day of the year, though hours vary according to the seasons. It's best to check ahead at the ranger's station if not planning on through-hiking or camping. A number of vacation rentals and hotels are available throughout the park, including Triangle X Guest Ranch, Jenny Lake Lodge, and Hotel Terra.
