In a diverse landscape covering beaches, mountains and vineyards, 18km east of Montpellier, lies Grande-Motte Golf club. Designed by the American top golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, this former marshland has been transformed into a 42 hole golf complex. It is actually Trent Jones’s first European designed course.

The area is divided over 135 hectares, of which 67 encompasses open spaces and 20 consist of lakes and ponds. The rest of the space is divided between on-site accommodation, the 42 holes, a large practice green with 50 bays, a 2000 m2 putting green, a pitch and putt, a golf school, practice bunkers and a golf school. There is also a bar and a restaurant, as well as a pro shop and trolley and cart hire.

The three courses are Les Mouettes, a compact 6-hole par 19 course, Les Goélands, an 18-hole par 58 course and Les Flamants Roses, an 18-hole International competition par 72 course.

The raised bunkers are always visible, they have a rugged topography and raised edges. Each hole has a different looking bunker, thus making each hole a new experience. When it comes to the fairways, both the 18 hole courses have been designed like parks. All the land inside the boundaries of the two courses have been planted with grass and is being well maintained. The main hazards facing players here are the lakes, bunkers and a few trees.

The average size of the greens vary, but every green has been created to give 4-7 possible flag locations. On the shorter course the greens are the same and here there are fewer bunkers but more grassy mounds and dips.
