Grange-Blanche station

Grange Blanche is an important station of line D of the Lyon subway, France.

In the surrounding area of the station are located the Edouard-Herriot Hospital, the University of Lyon, the Medicine and Anatomy Museum, the History Museum and the Leon Berard Centre. Grange Blanche station was opened in 1991. The line D has automatic driverless trains which, unlike other driverless train systems, have no gates between the platforms and the trains, with no problems. Actually, it was the first large-profile totally automated metro line in the world and it allows a frequency of 2 minutes between trains. Although station platforms are longer, obviously to permit the use of longer trains in the future, rains are formed by two cars only. The traffic on line D is just on the left side.

The station is equipped with a mezzanine and a single central platform directly illuminated by natural light and is leading to the center of the place d'Arsonval. It was designed by architects Jacques René Gimbert and Vergely and is dominated by a cybernetic sculpture in polished stainless steel produced by Nicolas Schöffer which is emerging from the station at over 25 meters above the ground.

The station makes the connection with the Satobus county bus line, the T2 tram stop and with the urban bus routes 9, 28, 34, 38 and 79.
