The Great Hall of the People is situated at the western part of the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. It is used primarily as the legislative and ceremonial center by the Chinese government or more specifically the Communist Party of China and the People’s Republic of China. It is also the parliament building of the People’s Republic of China.

The Great Hall of the People was constructed in September 1959 by volunteers. It was built in 10 months and was one of the Ten Great Constructions that was completed as a celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the People’s Republic.

The Great Hall of the People has three sections – the central section, the northern section and the southern section. The central section holds the Great Auditorium, the Congress Hall, the Main Auditorium, the Golden Hall and other main halls in the building. The northern section includes the Salute State Guest Hall, the State Banquet Hall and the East Hall while the southern section holds the office building of a major committee for the People’s Congress of China.
