Greenan Farm Museum and Maze
Greenan Farm Museum and Maze is located in Greenan, Rathdrum, County of Wicklow, Ireland.
The farm museum presents exhibits dating back over 100 years when traditional hill farming used only the horse and donkey. The maze was planted in 1988 and a stream flows through it to a pond in the centre, which is quite difficult to find.
The old Greenan farmhouse dates from the 16th Century and it’s main attractions are the kitchen which features the original fireplace and earth floor plus the main bedroom and Bottle Museum upstairs.
The Greenan Farm Museum is situated in the large barn near the farmhouse. It has been designed to exhibit equipment and tools, some of which date back to the Famine. The ground floor contains a fine collection of horse-drawn tools, from ploughs and harrows to carts and traps.
Greenan maze is a considerable challenge and is one of the very few mazes open to the public in Ireland.
Another attraction is the Dragonfly Walk, a raised wooden walkway that leads through native woodlands and wetlands and has three ponds with raised viewing platforms. It is an natural area which homes an abundance of wild life such as wild deer, moorhens, frogs and dragonflies.
Tourists can enjoy the tea-rooms available in the traditional cottage. Facilities include nature walk, farm animals, and a craft shop, which specialises in Irish hand made items.
The admission fee in the Maze and Museum is 7 euros for adults and 5 for children and students.
