Gronau
The town of Gronau - Westphalia is located in the western Münsterland region in the northwest of the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a medium town belonging to a county and the second largest in the administrative district of Münster. The Dinkel flows from south to north through the entire city area. Northeast of the Gronau lies Gildehauser Venn, a moorland. The central area of the Gildehauser Fens is now a nature reserve. The southern part of the Gildehauser Fens - Gronauer urban area is called Rüenberger Venn.
It neighbours with the next municipalities: City Ochtrup, Municipality Heek, City Ahaus, City of Enschede- Netherlands, Municipality Losser- Netherlands and City Bad Bentheim, Lower Saxony.
The name Gronau refers to the settlement on the river spelled Green Aue. The present Gronau dustrict is mentioned even from 1188. 1544 Gronau is committed to the Lutheran faith.
Once a year on late April, the Gronau Jazz Festival offers a platform for international jazz greats. In addition, every year, in summer, the Rock Festival is held. On this occasion every year music legends come to Gronau.
Gronau’s symbol of the city is the old water tower at the park. The drinking water reservoir has a capacity of 250 m3. The impressive buildings of the textile industry located north of downtown have been partially restored as technical monuments. The Apollo Theater (Gronau) was a popular cinema, theater and concert hall. In the years 1934-1940, he developed into a major Dutch-German cultural institution.
On July 2004 was opened the rock'n'popmuseum. It is unique in Europe for this genre of music history. The museum is located in the former boiler Hall of Fa M. van Delden. The permanent exhibition focuses essentially on the musical history of the last century. Driland museum, located in the old town hall tower, offers information about local and regional culture, development of the city and the textile history of the city.
