Gröpelingen is the biggest, the youngest, the most vibrant and the most populated quarter in the western suburbs of Bremen. It is composed from: Lindenhof Gröpelingen, Ohlenhof and Oslebshausen. It covers a surface of about 1,000 hectares inhabited by almost 35,000 people. It is an industrial district, rather a harbour, offering a base for thousands of jobs.
With the recruitment of so-called “guest workers”, many immigrants cme to Gröpelingen and have remained loyal to the district giving it an interesting contrast of cultures.
The current district Gröpelingen originally arose from the so-called “cluster villages” Gröpelingen. Old records, first reported in 1193 speak on relations between Bremen and Gröpelingen.
St. Nicholas is a true attraction for tourists. Until the summer of 2007 The old village pub was known as the oldest surviving building in Gröpelingen. Other attractions are: The monumental building of the prisons Oslebshausen, The old fire station, the park.
