Grotenburg Stadion

Grotenburg Stadion is a football stadium in the Krefeld District Bochum, Germany. Since 1970 it has been housing the traditional association KFC Uerdingen 05 (former Bayer 05 Uerdingen). The stadium was built in 1927 and for many years its capacity was 18,000 spectators, but in 1975 the construction of the new grandstand was made, today's South Stand. The combined stand and grandstand increased the total capacity of Grotenburg to 22,000 spectators. In the opening of the new grandstand, there was also a new attendance record in the Grotenburg: 22,000 spectators watched on 22 July 1975 to 6-0 win against FK Pirmasens.

In 1979 the west curve was increased with more standing room so 28,000 spectators could watch the games in the Grotenburg. With 28,000 sold out crowd Uerdingen played against Atletico Madrid on 16 April 1986 at the European Cup semi-final. In summer 1986 the "Old Stand" on the north side was replaced by a 6,000-seat grandstand. At the same time, the first part of the new Ostkurve was built, so that the 30,500 spectators in Grotenburg fit (including the UEFA Cup match against FC Barcelona Uerdingen on November 26, 1986). Sold out for the last time at the Grotenburg was registered on 5 November 1994 at the Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich (1-1). As Bayern Munich came here then again in 2004 for a friendly against Krefeld, were counted more than 30,000 spectators.
