One of the youngest train stations in the United States, the Grover Beach Amtrak station opened in 1996 and serves the Southern California communities of Grover Beach and Pismo Beach. 18,275 passengers board and alight at this station each year, which is served by the Pacific Surfliner train, which runs from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, as well as Amtrak Motor coach service, which carries passengers south to Pacific Surfliner trains in Santa Barbara, east to the Amtrak trains at Hanford and San Joaquin Valley and north to Amtrak trains in San Jose. Local public buses also stop at the station. The station has an unstaffed waiting room with payphones, and no ticketing services. However, there is a small restaurant attached to the station and a small office has also been constructed, showing signs that this station is only in the early years of its growth.

California´s plan to increase public transport options is clearly reflected in the construction of this Amtrak station, and will contribute to less air pollution in the area. There is free long and short term parking. Nearby accommodation options are plentiful in this beach town, and include the Quality Inn, Best Western Shore Cliff Lodge, Motel 6, and Oxford Suites.
