The Grugapark in Essen, Germany developed from the Great Ruhr Landscape Gardening Exhibition in 1929 and now, with its 700,000 square meters, is definitely one of the largest and most attractive leisure parks in Europe. The large park, centrally positioned in Essen and the Ruhr region, offers the best free-time opportunities for all generations at every time of the year.
Beside its high range of variety in the central areas of botany, animals, art, sport and health the Grugapark also offers other attractions: buildings that are well worth seeing such as the Gruga Tower, the glass Orangerie halls and the Music Pavilion which are multi-functional, architecturally exemplary structures for all sorts of events. The Roman House dates back to the Middle Ages. The fairy tale Hundertwasserhaus has improved the Park since 2005.
There are also options for both leisure and education such as the Gruga Rail, the barbeque stands and the Geological Wall.
Music events on Sundays are a part of the cultural offering of the Grugapark. The park has now developed into a top address for festivals and concerts. The regular audience and the many tourists from outside the region appreciate the high level performances under the tent roof of the Music Pavilion. One special highlight is the Parkfest lasting several days which attracts up to 40,000 visitors every year.
The admission fee for one visit to the park is of 3 euros for adults, 1,5 euros for students, 1 euro for children and free for children under 6.
