Grund

The Grund is a quarter in the valley below the centre of Luxembourg City, on the banks of the Alzette River, in southern Luxembourg. It is next to Clausen, one of the oldest parts of Luxembourg City.
Over the past 20 years the quarter has been transformed into a very lively place with several popular bars. The Grund is a picturesque area with popular nightlife precinct which can be accessed by foot or via a lift which descends through the cliff, because the narrow streets in the Grund very quickly become congested on Friday and Saturday nights and finding a parking spot is near impossible. Therefore people can use the parking lot and lift provided on the Place du St. Esprit. The lift goes to the bottom through the rock. At the bottom tourist will find Scott's pub which has a beautiful patio on the Alzette River with stunning views up to the old city. Then a tunnel leads out to the bridge.
Local attractions include The Grand Ducal Palace (the official residence of the Grand Duke), The Saint Michael's Church (the oldest place of worship in Luxembourg City), Museum of Natural History, St. Baptiste Church, Chapel of St. Quirin and The Pont Adolphe erected between 1900 and 1903 during the rule of Grand Duke Adolphe (at that time the bridge had the biggest stone arch in the world).
Downtown area with all its attractions is within walking distance from Grund, while main railway station is just 500 metres away.
