Combining natural beauty and historical importance, the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, in Greensboro, North Carolina, commemorates the Battle of Guilford Court House, fought on March 15, 1781. This encounter started the drive that led to American victory in the Revolutionary War. The British lost a substantial number of troops at the battle, which was a factor in their surrender at Yorktown seven months later. In 1886, David Schenck decided to turn the site into a park to commemorate the battle and prepared the park to be taken over by the US government in 1917. Twenty-eight monuments within the park honor Revolutionary soldiers, statesmen, heroes, and heroines. There is a visitor center which has information on the park and the battle. Rangers or volunteers at the information desk can answer questions about the history of the park and offer assistance. The visitor center offers movies, "Another Such Victory" (shown on the hour) and a ten-minute animated Battle Map Program explaining the strategy of the battle (shown on the :15 and :45 of the hour). There are also exhibits of original artifacts and weaponry. The visitor center also has a bookstore selling over 600 publications and theme-related items for sale on the battle and the Revolutionary War.

The park visitor center and park headquarters are located near the park entrance on New Garden Road. The park is open every day from 8:30am to 5pm except New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. There are many hotels close to the park in downtown Greensboro, including the Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and the Hyatt Place.
