The Gulfport Biloxi Airport, located northeast of the city of Gulfport, in Mississippi, was built in 1942 by the United States Army, to be used in flight training. Today, it retains its original purpose as a partial-air-force usage airport. It has also been opened up for civilian usage, and a total of approximately 235 aircraft operations per day currently pass through this airport. Massive damage from Hurricane Katrina in the southern part of the United States ravaged the airport, which was closed briefly for repairs and reconstruction in 2005. It quickly resumed operations, however, and by the following year was operating again at its previous capacity. Airlines using the two runways of the Gulfport Biloxi Airport include US Airways Express (with services to their hub in Charlotte, North Carolina), and Delta Connection (to Atlanta and Memphis). Other destinations for flights originating at this airport include Dallas and Houston, Texas, and Tampa, Florida.
