The national theater of Israel, Habima Theatre, continues its legacy as a venue for Hebrew Language performing arts. Established not in the Middle East but in Russia, Habima Theatre has become a cultural landmark honing talents who move on to bigger world stages.

Habima started in 1918 as a theater group in Moscow and supported by Polish actors, with the blessings bestowed by Joseph Stalin. It moved to Tel Aviv several years after and found success after mounting two superb productions by an acclaimed director from Moscow. With newfound fame in Tel Aviv, Habima Theatre rose to its current status as Israel’s national theatre.

Plenty of Jewish and Israeli theater icons such as Hana Rovina, Nimrod Eisenberg, Adva Levi, Yaron Goshen and Miriam Kirmaier grew up in Habima’s stage. At present, the theater company has in its fold 80 actors and a 120-strong workforce employed in the venue complex.
