Best remembered for its role in the 1960s hippie movement as the home of California’s counterculture movement, Haight-Ashbury is one of San Francisco’s oldest neighborhoods. Its bohemian ambiance attracts thousands of visitors each year, who make stops at its independent restaurants, bars, clothing boutiques, head shops and record stores including Amoeba Music. It is a mixture of the fifties lounge scene, the sixties spiritual and organic movement and the seventies punk rock.

One of the main attractions of Haight-Ashbury is the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair, held on the second Sunday of June each year. Celebrating the cultural contributions the neighborhood has made to the San Francisco area, the fair features crafts, food booths and two musical stages.
