This is an airport located in Hokkaido, Japan. Hakodate airport was opened in 1961 and is about 10 km from the city center. It receives flights from various domestic and international Carriers, among them Air DO, Airtransse, All Nippon Airways and the Hokkaido Air system. International airlines that land on Hakodate include Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Korean Air, as well as Mandarin and SAT airlines.
Hakodate is also a historic airport. This is where Soviet pilot Viktor Belenko landed when he defected to the West in 1976.

There are a number of attractions in Hakodate. These include Mt. Hakodate, Goryukaku Tower, Morning Market and the Yunokawa Onsen. Mt. Hakodate is a famous mountain where one can see a number of hot houses, as well as get a glimpse of rural Japan. One can reach the summit of the mountain by cable car or by using the hiking trail. One can see one of the most beautiful nighttime views of the city below from the top of the mountain.

Another famous attraction is Fort Goryukaku, the ruins of a Western-style fortress located in Goryukaku Park. This is also a local favorite for cherry blossom viewing. The morning market is also an interesting place to visit with its produce of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as seafood.
