Halifax Historical Society, founded 1949, is located in the old Merchant’s Bank building in the historical section of downtown Daytona. Focused on bringing the Halifax River area’s past to life for modern audiences, the Historical Society celebrated its 6oth anniversary in 2009.

With artifacts dating back to prehistoric times, the HHS provides wonders for every visitor, from pieces of the Spanish and English colonial eras to Native American artifacts and relics from pioneer families in the eighteenth century. In addition, the society has a number of modern installations, from beach auto racing exhibits to World Wars I and II. Permanent exhibits include Victorian Households, Volusia County Lifeguards and Surfboards, the Civil War in Florida and more. Scholars performing research are welcome to the old documents, maps and directories in the library. The theater which seats 60 often shows films on the Halifax historical subjects.

Museum hours are Tuesday to Sunday 10 to 4. Admission is $4 for adults and 1 for children 12 and under. On Thursdays, admission is by donation. Children 12 and under enter free on Sundays.
