Hall of Art Tübingen

Hotels near Hall of Art Tübingen, Tubingen, Germany .

The Kunsthalle (art hall) in Tübingen, Germany, was founded through the private financial contribution by the sisters Paula Zundel and Dr. Margarethe Fischer. Dedicated to Paula’s husband, the painter Friedrich Zundel, it was built in 1971 as a permanent centre for the enrichment of the local art scene.
The streamlined one-storey building was erected in a new construction district at the northern edge of the university town. It has a skylight, making great use of natural light.
Kunsthalle’s first director was Götz Adriani, and he was the brains behind what the Kunsthalle has become known for; the exchange between contemporary art and art of modernity.
Adriani encouraged the development of many young artists, such as George Segal and Richard Hamilton, who were later to make a name for themselves. Kunsthalle also put on exhibitions celebrating artists who created a modern painting style, such as Picasso, Degas and Cézanne.
In 2003 Kunsthalle became independent of the City of Tübingen and it gets its funds from its charitable foundation and private donations, of which the Zundel family is still a major part of. The money Kunsthalle brings in goes to ensuring that there will always be a place for visual art in Tübingen.
