For history buffs looking to find out about the past of Texas, there's no better place to head than down to Fair Park. There, locals and visitors alike will find The Hall of State Dallas, a building dedicated to showcasing the history of the great state of Texas.

Originally built in 1936, The Hall of State was one of the most expensive buildings constructed during The Great Depression in the entire state. The limestone building has a unique and distinctive curvature to its main building, and is one of the most distinctive buildings in all of Fair Park.

Managed by The Dallas Historical Society, The Hall of State Dallas houses The G.B. Dealey Library, which holds more than three million historic documents, all about the history of Texas. There's also The Hall of Heroes, where six bronze statues of Texas luminaries such as Sam Houston, Thomas Jefferson Rusk, and James Fannin. More heroes of the state are commemorated on bronze plaques on the outside of the Hall of Heroes.

In addition to all of its exciting tributes to Texas history, it is possible for regular people to actually rent the building for special occasions, including meetings and weddings. Rentals are arranged with The Dallas Historical Society, who operate and manage the building.

Visitors are free to explore The Hall of State Mondays through Saturdays, from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon, and on Sundays from one in the afternoon until five in the afternoon.
