Hamburg Dammtor is a railway station located in Hamburg, Germany.

The name Dammtor has an interesting history. It comes from an old city gate located here until the end of the 19th century. The existing railway was opened with almost 100 years ago, in 1903.

The station has a very good location, in the center of Hamburg in the quarter Rotherbaum of the Eimsbüttel neighborhood near the University of Hamburg and the Congress Center Hamburg. Because of the location, the railway station signs have the addition Messe- und Kongressbahnhof (trade fair and congress station).

Hamburg has four long distance train stations and Hamburg Dammtor is one of them. The other three are Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, Hamburg-Altona and Hamburg-Harburg. Despite its size and importance, because no trains are changing directions or starting and ending here, the station is classified as a Haltepunkt. The station has one platform servicing the regional and long distance trains, four elevated tracks and an island platform servicing the city train. The major destinations possible from this train station are Bremen, Dortmund, Kiel, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Munchen, Berlin, Hanover, Stuttgart, Dresden, Leipzig, Rostock and Kiel. As the travelers can see, the station connects Hamburg with almost all Germany. 30 shops and restaurants fill the 10,300 m² floor space.

A lot of bus lines are making the connection between the Hamburg Dammtor and the rest of the city and a subway line, too.
