The Hamilton Gardens is one of the Waikato Region in New Zealand’s biggest attractions. It attracts as many as 600,000 people every year. It is located in the southern area of Hamilton city between the bank of the Waikato River and State Highway 1 in New Zealand. It covers around 58 hectares of land area and is managed by the Hamilton City Council. The Gardens are free of charge for visitors and is open from 7:30 am. to 6:00 p.m. in winter time and until 8 p.m. during summers.

The first section to be developed and opened to the public was the Roger’s Rose Garden that was opened in 1971. The land on which the gardens stand now was used to be a Maaori residential area. Early developments involved the construction of a tropical display house as a means of a botanical garden. Extensive renovations and progressive developments however happened from 1981 onwards.

The Gardens has now several collections and area in the park. They are the American Modernist Garden, Chinese Scholars Garden, English Flower Garden and Italian Renaissance Garden under the Paradise Garden Collection, the Hammond Camellia Garden and Roger’s Rose Garden under the Cultivar Garden collection and the Herb garden and Kitchen Garden under the Productive Garden. Under the Landscape Garden you can find the Bussaco Woodland, Echo Bank Bush and the Valley Walk.
