Agdal Gardens

The Agdal Gardens are located at the south of Dar el Machzen, the Royal Palace from Marrakech, Morocco.
Abd el Moumen created these gardens in the 12th century as an orchard and they were renovated in the 19th century by the Saadi dynasty, when they were enclosed with pise walls.
This is definitely a place to visit, being listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1985, along with the medina of Marrakech and the Menara Gardens. The gardens are consisted of a large lagoon, vast orchards and other small pools. Due to the ancient system of underground irrigation channels, the wonder tourists experience here is remarkable. Another interesting fact is that the pomegranate, fig, olive, citrus and apricot orchards are still in their original raised-plot form and they present a magnificent floral beauty. The lagoon called The Tank of Health is the largest one and it was created by an Almohad prince in the 12th century. The smells are great here, too: the smell of lemon trees, orange in blossom and pomegranate fill the air reminding the tourists about the wonderful Andalusian tradition of the gardens.
Tourists can choose to travel through the Agdal Gardens with a horse and a carriage ride. A good option to get to the Agdal Gardens would be the public transport. The train station is located on Avenue Hassan II and Menara International Airport serves the city of Marrakech.
