The Agropolis Museum which sits 8km from the centre of Montpellier in southern France has been designed to become known as the food museum of the world.

Combining actual artifacts with multimedia to describe the global story of food, agriculture and people, Agropolis Museum provides a dynamic perspective of the food and foraging industry that has been witnessed throughout the history of mankind as well as geographic and cultural diversity.

Looking at questions such as are we over farming or can the land sustain out constant interference with the agricultural infrastructure are just a few of the questions that you can find the answers to as you explore the history of food and agriculture through the many audiovisual and animation avenues that the museum offers.

The museum also offers many mini exhibits of the world's fruits, vegetables and animals. Visitors can also meet eight different farmers from around the world, take a peek into their homes and listen to their stories on video. Another exhibition that visitors may want to see is a recreation of world food and drink preparations. Visitors can witness a tea ceremony in Japan, coffee rituals in Ethiopia and pasta making in Italy.

One permanent sculptural exhibition at the Agropolis Museum is ''The Banquet of Humanity'' or what is also called ''The Dining Table of the World''. Eight couples from Argentina, Bangladesh, Colombia, France, Portugal, Rwanda, Somalia, and Japan sit around a table. The countries around the table which are the work of Henri Rouvieres represent different hierarchies; three poor countries, three average income countries and two rich countries. The table also has another couple called The Excluded Ones who represent the ongoing struggle for food.

Tickets for the museum costs €5, concessions €2.50 and under 10's go free. Opening hours are from Monday to Friday 10am to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:00.
