Harlingen Haven

Station Harlingen Haven is a railway station in Harlingen, The Netherlands, and the terminus of the railway Leeuwarden - Harlingen.

The station is mainly used by people who take the ferry to Terschelling and Vlieland, or by Harlinger who live in the center or tourists who visit the historic city center.

The station was opened on October 27, 1863 and now has only one track. The current station building (no window) was built in 1990. For few years station was removed from the schedule of the route Leeuwarden - Harlingen, but in response to numerous protests it has been to reintroduce the train during the day. The station has two platforms and the main destinations possible from here are Franeker and Leeuwarden, an Arriva stoptrein running at every half hour.

Station Harlingen Haven is operated by Arriva (formerly NoordNed). From March 9, 2009,no train will run to Harlingen Haven for one year. Track and platform are moved to make room for the new dam, so the station will be located within the retaining wall. The work should be ready in June 2010. [1] During the work will be introduced buses between the stations Harlingen Haven.

In the surrounding area tourists can discover the harbor of Harlingen, where are shipyards, fish-processing plants, woodworking factories and works producing building materials. The Van Harinxma Canal links the harbor with Leeuwarden.

Some of the most conveniently located hotels are Hotel Zeezicht, Logement Garjen, Tullip Inn Franeker/leeuwarden and Hotel Centraal, rates starting from 50 Euros per night.
