Held over the course of nine weeks each summer is the Aspen Music Festival, an annual event that delights tourists and locals alike. The festival features a variety of acts and artists, all of whom share in performing against the unique splendor of the backdrop of the Colorado Rockies. This year's lineup included Elizabeth and Walter Paepcke of the legendary band, Chicago. Musical Director David Zinman leads the event, which includes chamber music, opera, orchestral concerts, lectures, kids' programs, and contemporary music. At the Aspen Music Festival there is truly something for music lovers of any kind. The concept, however, was not born over night. The festival started in 1949, with the celebration of the Goethe Bicentennial Convocation.
During the summer of 2007, the festival ushered in a new era of technology and music, with the first free big-screen opera simulcast in Wagner Park.
