The Harvard Museum of Natural History, created in 1995, is a public museum affiliated with the Botanical Museum, the Museum of Comparative Zoology, and the Mineralogical and Geological Museum; the University’s three natural history institutions. Ongoing exhibits include the botanical galleries, featuring a unique collection of more than 3,000 glass models of plants- a commission begun in 1886 representing more than 830 plant species; the zoological galleries, with animal species ranging from the earliest prehistoric creatures to those of today; and the mineralogical galleries. In addition to these extensive exhibits, the museum also hosts changing exhibits, workshops, lectures, events, international travel opportunities and children’s classes and programs, all of which can be viewed via the webpage at http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/.

Open daily, with the exception of New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve/Day, from 9am to 5pm, admissions are $9 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and students, $6 for ages 3 to 18, and free for guests under 3 years of age. Other area attractions include Harvard University and its other museums like the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (free entry with a purchased admission to the HMNH), the New England Aquarium, the Plimoth Plantation and Mayflower II, and Fenway Park- all accessible, as is the museum, with a Go Boston Card.
