Hat Yai International Airport is known to be the busiest and main business hub in the southern part of Thailand. The airport has become one of the most important services for most Muslim believers since it opens the gateway to Mecca where they perform their annual pilgrimage.

Managed by Airports of Thailand, PCL handles at least 9,500 regular flights, 12,000 tons of cargo and 800,000 passengers annually. The runway can handle 30 flights hourly. The 7 taxiways with an area of 56,461 m² can ideally handle thousands of passengers and provide transport service within a specific period of time.

Hat Yai Airport plays the main role of transporting goods, resources and products within and outside the southern parts of the region. Strategically situated at the main parts of Songkhla Province, the airport helped boost the business conditions of Malaysia.

Promising as it is, Hat Yai unfortunately experienced its dark fate in April 3, 2005 when the coined “Songkhla Bombings” took place. It was reported that the Pattani separatists planted a bomb near the departure lounge injuring 10 passengers and killing one. Today, security system of the airport are secured and tightened.
