Located at 2301 South Central Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona, the Heard Museum of Native Cultures and Art is a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the culture and heritage of the native tribes and peoples of the United States, particularly those originating from the southwestern part of the country. The Heard Museum of Native Cultures and Art is an excellent example of what is known as a "living museum," with many contemporary artifacts and other kinds of displays being shown.

The museum was originally founded in 1929 by the loca Heard family as a place to house their considerable collection of Native American art and artifacts, with many samples having been taken from the La Ciudad Indian ruin site excavated in the late 1920s. Today, the items on display come from all over the country and the museum is recognized globally for its valuable preservation and promotion work. Among the exhibits put on at the moment are the Barry Goldwater Collection containing over 400 dolls from the Hopi kachina tribe; an exhibition on the experience of Native American boarding school children that were forcibly assimilated; and the Mareen Allen Nichols Collection of contemporary Native American jewelry.

The hours of operation of the museum are 9:30am-5pm daily except Sundays, which are 11am-5pm. Admission is charged $12 for adults and $5 for students with ID, and is $3 for those aged 6-12.
