Heaton Park

Spanning an area of over 600 acres and located in Greater Manchester, England, Heaton Park is considered to be among the biggest parks in the whole of Europe. The park also contains an 18th century country house styled in Neoclassical Architecture, the Heaton Hall. Initially owned by the Earl of Wilton, the park and the hall, in 1902, were bought by the Manchester City Council. It was sold under the condition that the park should be maintained and be kept as a centre for recreation and enjoyment of the public. The park was renovated and remodeled as part of a millennium project and now comes full with various attractions. Being a Grade I Listed Building, Heaton Hall is one of the most important attraction, not just in the park, but in the whole of Manchester.
There are various other landmarks and noted features in Heaton Park that makes it one of the most visited tourist spots in Manchester. There is an ornamental temple designed by James Wyatt in 1800. It has a telescope and was considered to be the Earl’s private Observatory. The Dower House, Smithy Lodge, Grand Lodge, Western Pleasure Grounds, Orangery, Boating Lake, Hazlitt Wood Pond, etc are some of the other heritage sites within the park. The important modern attractions are Golf Course, tennis courts, animal farm, adventure playground, horse drawn carriages, tram service, etc.
