Located in Soltau, Lower Saxony, Germany and owned by Merlin Entertainments, Heide Park is one of the biggest and most widely acclaimed amusement parks in Northern Germany. Since its inception in 1978, the park has developed from just six rides to about forty rides today. Initially the land on which this park is built belonged to Hans-Jurgen Tiemann, who gave it away under the condition that the seven centuries old Heidenhof Chapel located in the area, should be conserved along with the flora and fauna of the region. Till 2003, Colossos, a wooden roller coaster, was one of the chief attractions of the park and also considered the steepest roller coaster in the world till then. Lately, the park acquired fame, for introducing Germany’s first launched Roller Coaster, the Desert Race. As of date, the park has seven roller coasters, four water rides and numerous other attractions like, Condor (spinning tower ride), Flipper (tilted spinning ride), and Panorama Tower and so on. Apart from these, the park also offers seven different shows on a daily basis.
Visitors can make use of the various information kiosks, help desks and ample refreshment facilities. There are restaurants and food courts as well with a good variety of cuisines. Heide-Park Resort - Hotel Port Royal, located in the middle of the park is among the main attractions. It’s a pirate themed hotel offering facilities like, the restaurant La Tortuga fashioned like a pirate fortress, guestrooms classified as Buccaneer’s cabin, Captain’s cabin, Everest room, Pirate’s quarters, etc. These features go hand in hand with all the modern amenities made available to the guests.
The park operates between March to November and remains closed during the rest of the year. It’s easily accessible by road and rail. Apart from the paid ticket, entry is permitted using the Merlin Annual premium pass. www.heide-park.de is the official website of the park.
