The Helsinki Street is the main road of Kallio area, Helsinki, Finland. The street is about two kilometres long and leads to Hämeenlinna road. A plan of the street was confirmed in 1902, according to which the Helsinki Street started to be slowly build.
Kallio is a district in Helsinki and the most densely populated area in Finland, located on the eastern side of the Helsinki peninsula. The district (literally called "the rock") is separated from the city center by a bridge called Pitkäsilta (the long bridge) of the Helsinginkatu and Wallinikatu. History shows that the bridge marks the symbolic divide between the bourgeois center and the more working class areas around Kallio.
The Helsinki Street has several places that are worth seeing, like Eben-Ezer Foundation Building (completed in 1908), the Finnish Workers' Institute (a neo-classical building), City Winter Gardens , the fountain in Töölö Bay, The Helsinki Sportshouse (Urheilutalo) and the Brahe Sportsfield Helsinki, Deaconess Institute and Finnish National Opera. It is also the centre of Kallio’s nightlife, due to the reason that is one of thickest concentration of bars in Helsinki.
Getting around in Helsinki is quite simple because there aren’t too many tram and bus lines and they all cross each other at some points of the city. Tram line 8 runs from one end to the other of the street Helsinki and crosses with the lines 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10. On both sides of the street there are subway station elevated and covered with concrete stone. The square in Vaasa and Brahe field case is a taxi rank.
