Another one of Plano's most popular museums isn't dedicated to the railroad or contemporary art, but rather, to what it was like living on a farm at the turn of the century. The Heritage Farmstead Museum recreates the times of yesterday in an old Victorian farmhouse, showing visitors what life was like for those pioneers living in the north Texas prairie.

Located in Plano, not far from the downtown area, The Heritage Farmstead Museum doesn't just provide a brief look at what life was like, but rather, a complete immersion for the afternoon. Each room of the farmhouse is done up in period decor, with original artifacts including kitchen devices, beds, and other interesting pieces. The house is only part of the attraction, as it stands on a 4-acre farmstead.

It is slightly important to note that the "real life" perspective that The Heritage Farmstead Museum gives is based more on wealthy Texans, and not an average day in the life of a farmer. Sometimes, the exhibition in the home changes from just showing what day to day life is like, with special exhibitions at holidays and when the seasons change.

The Heritage Farmstead Museum also has a livestock program, with a variety of sheep, goats, horses, and mules, a blacksmith shop and root cellars, and even an area for children's games. The entire property is both beautiful and picturesque.

The Heritage Farmstead Museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday, from ten in the morning until four-thirty in the afternoon. Guided tours are possible daily at 1:30pm, or by arranging for another time beforehand. Tours include both the Farrell-Wilson House, the Grounds, and the Outbuildings.
