The Hillbrow Telkom Towers, also simply known as the Telkom Tower, is a tall mast located in Hillbrow, a suburb of Johannesburg. The structure towers over the city of Johannesburg and can be seen from most vantage points in the area. It is mostly used as a radio tower and the tower’s top floor lies at an elevation of 131 feet. It is owned by Telkom, for which the tower is also named after.

The tower’s construction began in 1968 and was completed in 1971. It was initially known as the JG Strijdom Tower after the South African Prime Minister. In 2005, the tower was renamed as the Telkom Joburg (short for Johannesburg) Tower. In 1981, the tower was closed to visitors because of security reasons. Before it was closed to the public, however, it was one of Johannesburg’s top tourist draws.
