One of the most popular spots for skiing around Anchorage for over 25 years, Hilltop Ski Area is a great choice for both beginners and advanced skiers, as well as a growing number of snowboarders. Located in Far North Bicentennial Park, not too far from Chugach State Park, Hilltop Ski Area is a moderately short drive from the city of Anchorage and a great place to start exploring Alaskan skiing.

If you're traveling with youngsters who have never tried to ski before, this is a great place to begin. Ski school here offers group and private lessons for both skiers and snowboarders, regardless of age or ability. Most of the trails are easy, though there are a decent number of moderate and difficult runs for those with the experience and taste for adventure.

Hilltop Ski Area has a variety of lifts, depending on the trail, ranging from a simple rope tow to a triple Riblet chairlift. The park's original beginner's slope is its beginners slope to this day, and it's long been a popular spot for family vacations.

Unlike some of the other parks in the area, Hilltop Ski Area is only open for the winter months, and offers no summertime diversions. When it's the on-season, though, skiers and snowboarders can hit the slopes all day long on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, and at limited hours during the week.
