Part of New York's National Register of Historic Places, Cherry Hill has quite a storied past of change and drama. Originally a building that housed five generations of the Van Rensselaer and Rankins families in Albany, in the 1960s, Historic Cherry Hill was changed into a museum, which has been educating the public on the spot's history for the past 50 years.

Historic Cherry Hill has quite a back story. The museum's original purpose was preservation, of both the house itself and an array of photographs, books, and objects, which number in the tens of thousands. These documents offer insight into an aristocratic world that's all but disappeared from American history, where, as matriarch Catherine Rankin would say, the "vulgar rich" currently are in charge of power.

Located south of downtown on Pearl Street, Historic Cherry Hill is close to a number of hotels in the area, including The Regency Inn & Suites, The Holiday Inn Express Downtown, The Comfort Inn Albany, and Towneplace Suites.
