Historic District

Hotels near Historic District, Santa Fe, United States .

Santa Fe Historic District is bounded by Camino Cabra, Griffin St, W. Manhattan Ave, Camino de Las Animas and St. Francis Drive in Santa Fe, representing one of the oldest parts of the oldest capital city in the United States, originally established by the Spanish as a part of the New Spain of then-Mexico. The small adobe buildings which originally served as a defense in the wild early days still stand in the center of town.

One of the key points of the district is Santa Fe Plaza, a national landmark since 1960 and listed on the NRHP since 1966. Santa Fe Plaza is home to the Spanish Market, the local celebrations and the Santa Fe Indian Market. The plaza is covered with grass, trees and benches for visitors to enjoy while taking a break from the action.

Another important monument on the plaza is the Palace of the Governor’s, the oldest building in the U.S., in use since 1610. The palace’s street address is 120 Washington Avenue and it has been a national landmark since 1960 (it was also added to the NRHP in 1966). Though it was an important government building for centuries, today it serves as a state history museum. Tours of the Historic District are offered out of the palace at 10:15 a.m., Monday to Saturday, during the months from May to October.

Accommodations in the area include La Posada de Santa Fe Resort (330 East Palace Avenue), the Hotel Plaza Real (125 Washington Avenue), the Spa at Loretto (211 Old Santa Fe Trail), La Fonda Santa Fe (100 E. San Francisco St), the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi (113 Washington Ave), the Hacienda Nicholas (320 E Marcy St) and the Dancing Ground of the Sun (711 Paseo de Peralta).
