Hochfirstschanze

Hochfirstschanze is a natural ski jump located in Titisee-Neustadt, in the deep Black Forest at the Titisee and only few kilometres away from the highest peak in the Black Forest, the 1493 m high Feldberg. The town has approximately 12,000 inhabitants and is about 30 kilometres away from Freiburg. In fact, it is the largest natural ski jump in Germany.

The first ski jumping hill at Neustadt in Black Forest was built in 1911 at Mühlrain. In 1932 the Hochfirstschanze in Schmiedsbachtal was built as a 60 meter hill. The large Hochfirstschanze was set up at today’s location after World War II in 1950. After the ski jump was converted at the takeoff in 1971 it had a K Point of 90 m. Further conversions were done in 1971 and 1988 with a new-profiling of the landing hill and changes at the takeoff.

In 2000, 4 million euro was invested in order to modernize Hochfirstschanze and a Continental cup competition for the inauguration was held on February 10 and 11, 2001. The first World Cup ski jumping in Black Forest was hosted in December 2001. On 2 December 2001 was set the current hill record of 145.0 m by Sven Hannawald and on 3 February 2007 Adam Malysz equalized it. On 31 January 2009 Bastian Kaltenböck jumped 147 m wide, but as it was not in trial round is not considered a record to be official.
