Founded in the year 1908, this university was initially established as engineering academy, but later branches out to many specialised faculties.
The degree programmes offered by the university range from engineering and other sciences to a variety of courses in design and art. The university also has branched out into Rostock- Warnemuende for Maritime Studies. Together, these two institutes have 7 departments offering 14 degree programmes and incorporate almost 4000 students that come from a many as 30 different countries the world over.
The institute of Maritime Studies is located to the west of Wismar, almost 60 km away and has indulged in the area of nautical training since almost 1846. The Hochschule Wismar University of Technology Business and Design has a good infrastructure, experienced teaching and other staff members and also well-resourced laboratories for research work that meet international standards. All these facilities that the university offers give a perfect set-up for innovation in the field of research studies and academic excellence.
The university (along with its branches) has seven main faculties that re the Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Interior Architecture/ Design, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Electronics and Multimedia Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Process and Environmental Engineering and lastly the Faculty of Maritime Studies.
