Hochst

Located 10 kilometers towards the west of downtown Frankfurt, Hochst is one of the most important districts of Frankfurt am Main in Germany. It was in 1928 that Hochst am Main was incorporated as a district of Frankfurt am Main.
Unlike other districts in Germany, Hochst is well known as an old historical township. The town is most famous worldwide for being the headquarters of a pharmaceutical establishment, Hoechst AG which has been around since 1863. Even after a few international mergers, the company’s most important R&D unit is still in Hochst.
Since 1972, the government authorities have taken up the preservation of this old city as an important duty and put it under the Denkmalschutz protection law. There was a great fire in the year 1586 resulting in widespread damages. All the wooden constructions found in the middle age areas of Hochst were built after this fire.
