Hollywood Sign

Hotels near Hollywood Sign, Los Angeles, United States .

A simple construction of wood and metal from 1923, the Hollywood Sign has become one of the most famous and internationally recognizable icons on the planet. The letters, which span about 200 feet and reach to 50 feet in height, are set in the Hollywood Hills of Mount Lee, Los Angeles, California. Originally intended as an advertisement, the sign is now protected by the not-for-profit organization, the Hollywood Sign Trust. When the sign was built by the Crescent Sign Company, it was meant to say “HOLLYWOODLAND,” and advertise a housing development. Officially dedicated in July of 1923 it was never meant to be a permanent structure, but in the end it became exactly that. Over the years the sign has undergone several restoration processes, and can today be best viewed from the Hollywood and Highland complex, located next to Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Other Hollywood attractions include Universal Studios, Sunset Ranch Hollywood, and the Capitol Records building. While staying in LA, choose from fine accommodations like the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, the Metro Plaza Hotel, and the Standard Hotel.
