Honolulu Academy of Arts was founded in 1922 by Anna Rice Cooke; the Academy officially opened its doors to the public on april 8, 1927 and since then it has hosted a large collection of over 40,000 pieces of art from all over the world. Admission is $10, $5 for seniors, students and military personnel; all members and children under 12 can get in free. The museum is open from Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4:30pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Wheelchair access and handicap parking is available near the main entrance. The Academy can be reached by bus, trolley as well as by car. Japanese language tours and regular tours are offered on a regular basis. Group tours need to be prearranged beforehand. The Academy’s extensive collection includes woodblock prints from Japan, which can be viewed online, Indian religious artifacts, medieval and Renaissance prints and frescoes, African fertility dolls, and much more.
